Abstract

This study focuses on the representation of masculinity in Ebiet G. Ade’s songs. This is the implementation of gender or masculinity studies on pop culture products. It aims to provide evidence on the variety of masculine representations in pop culture products in the same period of time. This is qualitative research. Content analysis with transcript method is used. Data is taken from Ebiet G. Ade’s 1988 music album 20 Lagu Terpopuler Ebiet G. Ade Vol. 1-10 1977-1987. The result of this study shows that the masculine representation in Ebiet G. Ade’s songs is different from previous research on the masculine representation of Indonesian men in other pop culture products from the same period.

Abstract

Currently, the world is faced with a pandemic of Corona Virus Disease or COVID-19. All activities such as teaching and learning activities (KBM) at schools and universities must be carried out at home or carried out boldly with distance learning to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Distance learning is an option, even a necessity. One of the applications that can be used to support distance learning is Microsoft Office Team 365 as used in SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta. The purpose of this study was to see the use of Microsoft Office Team 365 learning media in bold learning in SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta during the Pandemic Period. The method in this research is case research. The subjects of this study were students of class XII SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta. In one class an average of 30 students. Microsoft Office Team 365 learning media can be used as online learning during a pandemic. The features available in Microsoft Office Team 365 can support bold learning during a pandemic. Distance learning using IT-based media can optimize the use of learning media for Microfost Office Team 365 so that class XII students of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta still benefit from the distance learning process in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Pitaruah Ayah is one of the works of Sanggar Balerong Jakarta. Pitaruah Ayah is a message and advice that contains the teachings of life, both values ​​, and norms that apply in the life of Minangkabau people. The advice conveyed in the Pitaruah Ayah uses a lot of metaphorical languages where the most dominant one is a metaphor. Metaphor is a figurative language that compares one thing to another. This study aims to identify and describe the meaning and function of metaphors in Pitaruah Ayah. The method used in collecting data is the observation method with the advanced technique of uninvolved conversation observation. Furthermore, the identify method is used namely the referential and translational method. The results of the study show that the meaning of metaphor in Pitaruah Ayah is positive connotative and negative connotative. Of the two meanings, the most common meaning is positive connotative. Then, the metaphorical functions found in the work include directive and assertive functions.

Abstract

This research is an ecolinguistic study that examines the verb lexicon and noun Tanjung Pucuk Jambi Language in a farming environment. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the verb lexicon and noun, to determine the lexicon that is still in use and the lexicon that has just emerged in the language of Tanjung Pucuk Jambi Village, Tebo Regency, and Jambi Province with the farming environment. The data used in this study is the language of the village of Tanjung Pucuk Jambi. This research uses a qualitative approach. The method and technique used in data collection is a free and involved method with note-taking. The method used in data analysis is the method of the split method and the equivalent method. The results of the analysis are presented in a descriptive way supplemented with pictures and signs to support the presentation of the results of the analysis. The analysis shows that there are still many lexicon verbs and nouns in the Tanjung Pucuk Jambi language that is still in use today. The relationship between the verb lexicon and the Tanjung Pucuk Jambi language noun is closely related to the socio-cultural life activities of the local community with a farming environment where the local community works daily in farming in the fields. Then there are also some verb lexicons and nouns in the language of Tanjung Pucuk Jambi, which have just emerged because they are doing farming activities in new fields by planting oil palm plantations.

Abstract

Numerous researchers examine teachers' and students’ experiences in online learning at the college level. But there are a few sources that explore the implementation of English online classes at a Vocational high level. This issue is highly needed since the theory and researches dealing with this topic at this level still rare. The present study aims to close the gap by investigating the implementation of English online classes. The participants were six female English teachers and one hundred and seventy students at one state vocational high school in Central Java, Indonesia. The current research analyzes not only numerical data but also narrative data, which is customary for qualitative research to address the research questions. The instruments use questionnaires and a semi-structured interview. The overall results revealed that technology could help both teachers and students in conducting teaching and learning activities, even though some constraints such as limited data plan, network difficulties, and lack of teacher-students engagement. Furthermore, understanding materials became top rank challenged for participants during the online class. The current study contributes theoretical and practical benefits to improve the implementation of online learning in the age of global pandemics.

Abstract

Critical discourse analysis (CDA) in the perspective of Teun A. Van Dijk, Fairclough, and Wodak is divided into five characteristics, namely action, context, history, power, and ideology. The study object of CDA can be varied, one of which is literature. This research will examine the characteristics of CDA, namely action inside Dolop short story by Akhmad Sekhu. In this case, the form of action will be classified into a form of nonverbal action and verbal action, then it will be classified again into a form of action that reflects life as a dolop, an impostor who disguised as an ordinary citizen. Dolop short story is written by Akhmad Sekhu, this short story is published at Laman Cerpen Digital Kompas on 22nd of October 2020. This study used a qualitative research design with descriptive methods for analyzing the data until then it was found the results that in Dolop short story contains sixteen forms of nonverbal action and nineteen forms of verbal action that reflect life as a dolop. The gaps of this research are focusing on one of the characteristics of CDA which is action, meanwhile in contrast to other studies usually focusing on all the characteristics of CDA.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to identity racism on three women in the movie, types of racism, and the effects of racism on victims in Hidden Figures Movie. This research used the descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. This research was taken from a film called Hidden Figures. The results of this study reveal that: (1) Racism is the attitude of the majority who feel superior and great who consider themselves entitled to hold power and do negative things such as injustice, this does not only involve humans but also nature or the environment. Victims of this incident always feel alienated and helpless, (2) Types of racism treatment such as Personal Racism and Institutional Racism (3) Effects on victims who receive racism treatment such as motivation, fight for equal rights and inferior attitudes that feel insulted. (4) The results of this study also provide some moral messages from victims who face racism with a positive and negative attitude.

Abstract

Pindapata is a noble custom since the time of the Buddha by walking to the people's settlements to receive food offerings from the devotees. This study aims to describe the form of the pindapata tradition as a form of sanghadana in the Buddhist community and to analyze the spiritual meaning of the pindapata tradition as a form of sanghadana in the Buddhist community. This study aims to describe the form of the pindapata tradition as a form of sanghadana in the Buddhist community and to analyze the spiritual meaning of the pindapata tradition as a form of sanghadana in the Buddhist community. This study uses a qualitative study approach using a case study model. The research was limited to one place in the Chinatown area of ​​Magelang City, Magelang Regency. The results showed that the form of the pindapata tradition as a form of sanghadana in the Buddhist community is a form of devotion for a student to the teacher and amisa dana. The spiritual meaning of the pindapata tradition as a form of sanghadana in Buddhist society is a form of gratitude by means of budi or in other words, katannukatavedi.

Abstract

This study is an attempt to examine the names of the boats and the categorization of boat names in Linggo Sari Baganti Subdistrict, Pesisir Selatan Regency. The study of boat names is also associated with the function, meaning, and cultural values ​​contained in these names. The purpose of this study is to describe and explain the categorization and naming process of boats. Describe and explain the function, meaning, and cultural value of the names of the boats. Based on the results of data analysis, 60 (sixty) boat names were categorized in the names of fruits, animal names, names of children, naming events, naming conditions, and place names. The boat names given can distinguish self-identity for boat owners. The name of the boat given is very valuable, valuable, and useful, and contains good meaning. The function of the name of the boat, there are five functions, namely (1) information function, (2) expressive function, (3) directive function, (4) aesthetic function, and (5) fatigue function. The meaning contained in the name of the boat there is three meanings, namely (1) the meaning of the futurative name, (2) the meaning of the name of the situation, (3) the meaning of the name of the memory. The cultural values ​​contained in the names of the boats. Namely the value of social welfare, the value of hard work, the value of discipline, the value of commitment, the value of social solidarity, the value of cultural preservation and creativity, the value of gender management, the value of peace, the value of harmony and resolution of conflict, and the value of gratitude.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the ability of class X students in the city of Mataram in producing anecdote texts in Indonesian language learning. The research data collection was carried out by the method of observation and documentation with the technique of free competency involvement. The analysis of the research was carried out qualitatively and quantitatively by connecting the intralingual equivalent method of link-to-equalize, connect-to-differentiate, and link-to-equalize the main things for secondary education students in the city of Mataram and to smooth the course of the research 113 students were selected as samples. Provided that all students have received the same learning. The results showed that the students' ability in producing anecdotal literary genre texts ran quite well. This research was conducted to see the results of students 'writing skills at the intermediate and is expected to be successful in helping teachers improve students' writing skills in producing text anecdotes.
